In 2012, I collaborated with Darren Cook and we were fortunate to be included in what was then known as the Queenstown Heritage and Arts Festival, in Queenstown, Tasmania. We proposed to create a sound, video and object based installation in the disused Hospital up on the hill. This project ticked a lot of boxes for me. Visually I adore disused and derelict buildings, I love the sound of silence and the imagined aural residue contained within. I love the hauntology of these kind of spaces.
A number of sound recordings were taken throughout the building (much of it still with electricity) and nearby. Not all of it could be used and I have sat on these recordings; reworking, remixing and mastering them on and off ever since.
This is the result, some unused elements and some remixed, reconstructed parts that were included in the final installation that was called 'Still'.
Darren appears on a few of these tracks as well.
