A hauntological exploration of formative concepts on videotape by Matt Warren.

PAL Colour VHS. 4:3 14 minutes (repeated x 4). Limited Edition of 3 only, signed and hand numbered sleeves, unique clamshell boxes. Please note; these tapes are PAL playback only.

    Early 1980s, Longford, Tasmania.
Sometime in the artist's childhood experience of home video, a movie was rented from a video library and watched by himself and his slightly younger cousin during a school holiday get together. Both viewers were younger than perhaps they should have been to view the bloody and destructive content in the action film.
A strong recollection was a now in-retrospect, somewhat mean spirited approach, to a scene where the movie's protagonist broke down crying, describing an horrific occurrence. Such was his anguish that his voice became a drawl and whine that the immature viewers found amusing and which they laughed at, rewound and re-watched a number of times.
At the movies conclusion the two watched the entire movie again, in reverse and sped up. In this mode, the viewers were witness to open flesh closed up again, those falling from great heights rising to safety again, the flames of explosions closing back into their casings, bullets re-entering the gun barrels and spilled blood returning to the veins. This was playing with and altering time and consequences and although at the time, it was merely an amusing visual effect, it could be seen to be a formative conceptual basis for some of the artist's work in the future. This video hauntologically address that conceptual starting point.

Constructed and produced between August 2014 and January 2020.

Note: I'm currently discouraging shipping to overseas destinations due to the prohibitive cost. In many cases postage is over double the cost of the item and this seems unreasonable to pass onto the customer. This is due to the current pandemic that has removed an 'Economy' option. You can of course still order, but please be aware of the postage cost. Thanks. M.W.
